Today is bittersweet. Today, my little Kaden is three months old.
I can't believe that just three short months ago, I was standing bent over a hospital bed, trying my darndest to get him to move out of the breach position, as I waited for the Pitosin to kick in and active labor to begin. A few hours, one epidural, and three pushes later (thank goodness he turned at the last minute!), this little guy was in my arms.
Look how little he was. How fragile and new.
The hospital stay was wonderful. I got plenty of rest before Matt and Tanner came to take us home.
I was so certain that Kaden and Tanner looked completely different...but after comparing their baby pictures, I have to admit that their profiles are almost identical. Other than that, Kaden is his own man.
I used to think that after having one baby, I'd be ready for whatever my next child threw at me. Boy was I wrong. Tanner was a superbly easy baby and Kaden...well, not so much. In the hospital, he was so quiet and peaceful - all the nurses commented on how even-tempered he was. Then, about a week after we got him home, he started his fussy stage.
The poor little guy would scream and squirm and just looked like he was in so much pain. I tried all sorts of different remedies and even went off of dairy - my favorite food group - for two whole months trying to figure out how to calm Kaden's upset stomach.
Finally, after getting him on Zantac, we've seen a major improvement. It seems our poor little Kaden has silent reflux. Thankfully, he doesn't spit up, but the acid must just burn up his little throat. So, as much as I dislike medicating my little one, the Zantac has worked to reduce the acid in his stomach so he's in less pain.
Other than the difficulties of dealing with a fussy acid-filled little man, I think Kaden is just the sweetest, most beautiful little boy. I can't get enough of his pudgy cheeks...and those lips!!
Another of my favorite features is Kaden's widows peak. It's so funny because he has practically no hair, but his hairline is this glowing-white triangular outline on his forehead. I love it.
(here is Matt flowbeeing Kaden's few wispy stragglers)
And check out his beautiful grey-blue eyes - just like his Dad's.
I love seeing my two little boys interact - especially now that Kaden is cooing and smiling and often directing his interactions toward his Big Brother. Tanner wakes up every morning and asks to see his Baby Kaden. He is such a sweet big brother. He loves giving Kaden kisses, rocking him in his carseat or swing when he is fussing. He can't seem to understand why Kaden won't take the binkie when he's crying - Tanner was, and still is, such a binkie boy; but Kaden couldn't care less about the pacifier. Tanner has started this new thing where he sticks his arm next to Kadens hands and laugh hysterically as Kaden's little fingers wiggle around and involuntarily tickle Tanner's arm. They are already such good little buddies.
Although Mother of two is not always the easiest role to fill, it's all well worth it.
I love my little boys.
